January 24, 2012 - The employment law specialist and health and safety advisor Bibby Consulting & Support is on line for another excellent year in its Giving Something Back programme which raises hundreds of thousands of pounds for charitable causes.
Last year the programme, which is run by parent company Bibby Holdings, raised £467,000. Since the scheme was launched in 2007, Bibby employees have donated over £3.7m to over 600 charitable causes.
To date this year, Bibby Consulting & Support staff have raised £14,579 with a variety of projects. Last year the team raised £14,672.
Most recently, employees were involved in the project to build a second classroom at the Oloolnganayio Primary School in Olenkuluo near Nairobi, Kenya. The team raised £3755 towards the project and the school is already signing up more children.
Bibby Consulting and Support's Charlotte Hough said: “Although it was both physically and emotionally demanding, the trip gave me a sense of great satisfaction to know that I was making such an enormous difference to the community.”
Other projects that have raised thousands of pounds – supported by the Bibby match fund – include the Call Centre Charity Curry Day, with money going to Fairbridge, a charity that helps young people aged 13 to 25 to overcome issues such as drug and alcohol misuse. Over the last 12 months, employees have raised over £900 for the 92 foot tall-ship Spirit of Fairbridge which helps young people to communicate, work in a team and reflect on the consequences of their behaviour.
A 50-mile sponsored bike ride by Malcolm Cameron raised nearly £1,000 for the local Historic Churches Trust; Lee Dolman raised just short of £700 for the Roy Castle Trust by taking part in the Great North Run; Cath Williams' Jeans for Genes day raised £501.00 for children with genetic disorders; a bring £1 to work day by the call centre team raised £172.00 for the Douglas Macmillan hospice in North Staffordshire; and a Wear it Pink day raised £382 for breast cancer charities. Funds are still being collated for the Movember moustache growing event and Children in Need. In the meantime, Operation Christmas Child packed and collected 27 boxes to send to less fortunate children.
Says Bibby Consulting & Support's Managing Director Michael Slade: "The Giving Something Back programme is a unique initiative which aims to harness the passion of its people and contribute something back to the local communities in which we do business. The programme engages all of our employees by offering support for their own chosen charities and projects in their local communities.
"We are justifiably proud of the magnificent effort that our staff put into this programme and it has now become integral to the ethos of the company. We are determined to raise more and more money for worthwhile causes every year."
