September 28, 2011 - Responding to new government figures that businesses could be hit with costs of up to £45m when extra regulations come into effect later this year, Michael Slade, Managing Director of Bibby Consulting & Support said:
"The business minister has admitted that companies will not feel the benefit of the government's pledge to cut red tape for a couple of years. In the meantime, they face crippling levels of bureaucracy that will do nothing to help them grow their business and create new jobs.
"Our recent survey* showed that businesses live in genuine fear of stifling red tape and don't believe the government is really going to do anything about it. Company after company we spoke to complained of spiralling bureaucracy. And not only did they express frustration and dismay at the current 'minefield' of employment law, they also had real concerns about an expected 'flood' of new rules and regulations."
Slade added: "What should be of major concern to the government is that a significant number of business leaders in our survey showed genuine anger and resignation that the state of affairs regarding red tape was simply going to get worse. We believe it is time the government stopped all this talking about tackling bureaucracy for businesses and actually did something about it – and the sooner the better."
