September 07, 2011 - Employees from Cannock-based Briggs Equipment have raised nearly £700 by taking part in a sponsored dog walk for a charity that helps transform the lives of disabled people.More than 80 staff walked over 30 dogs from the company’s office in Orbital Way up to the ponds on Kingsway and back again in aid of Dogs for the Disabled.
The event was held in conjunction with a full day of fundraising activities and awards including ‘smallest dog’, ‘waggiest tail’, ‘best six legs’, and ‘the dog that the judge would like to take home’.
Prizes were also donated by staff for a tombola and a bring and buy sale.
The Dogs for the Disabled is Briggs’ chosen charity for 2011 and the company has already hosted a number of fundraising events throughout the year. Its parent company, Sammons Enterprises inc., has pledged to match all of the money that Briggs raises.
Chris Meinecke, Briggs’ chief operating officer, commented: “The Dogs for the Disabled charity is one very close to us here at Briggs as it fits in line with our core values of ethics, integrity and respect for the individual.
So far we this year we have raised over £1,000 for the charity and hope to raise even more money to help the charity achieve its goal of training dogs to help severely disabled people lead more independent lives.”
