PRESTIGIOUS HOTEL REGENERATES EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY WITH HOPPECKE BATTERIES

February 03, 2011 - The Chester Grosvenor Hotel and Spa, one of the North West’s most prestigious resorts, has renewed its reserve energy supply with HOPPECKE Industrial Batteries. With 80 rooms and two centralised emergency systems, the hotel requires a continuous backup power supply to meet health and safety legislation.

“Ensuring the safety of our guests is paramount,” explains Ted Griffiths, Maintenance Manager at The Chester Grosvenor. “In order to meet government legislation, we need reserve batteries to last at least one hour during power failures, keeping hallways and fire exits illuminated.”

HOPPECKE has continued to meet the needs of The Chester Grosvenor by supplying two premium OGi bloc batteries for its backup lighting systems.

OGi blocs are vented lead-acid batteries providing environmental and economic benefit to customers as well as providing excellent reliability and long-life expectancy. With a 3D-structured electrode, the OGi blocs deliver operational reliability and long-life expectancy for up to 12 years. The robust design and durability sees no corrosion and the composite terminal prevents short-circuits.

“The life-cycle costs of batteries are of great importance to The Chester Grosvenor,” explains Paul Butchart, HOPPECKE’s National Sales Manager. “With a 12 year life expectancy and needing little maintenance, the OGi blocs’ environmental impact is low. They utilise neon lights to reduce carbon emissions as well as running costs.”

After having given maintenance training to the hotel’s staff, HOPPECKE also provides an on-call backup service to offer battery guidance and advice. The Chester Grosvenor has its own maintenance team to ensure the smooth running of the OGi blocs.

The hotel is amongst the very few to be awarded five AA Red Stars outside of London. It has been an established fixture of Chester’s city centre since 1866.
