May 13, 2011 - A charity for special dogs which helps to transform the lives of disabled people will be getting a boost in donations thanks to local forklift truck company, Briggs Equipment.
The Cannock-based firm is hosting a number of fundraising activities on Friday, May 20 for the Dogs for the Disabled charity which trains assistance dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities and families with a child with autism.
Kicking off the day will be a ‘Big Dog’s Breakfast’ in Briggs’ canteen where all change from food purchases will be donated. A ‘Dogsbody’ auction will also be held for employees to bid to have a Director as their ‘Dogsbody’ on the morning of May 20.
Also leading up to the day will be a colouring competition for children, a silly dog photo competition and the naming of a boy and girl dog from the charity.
Announcing the winners and pledging their support will be Cannock Chase’s MP, Aidan Burley and Mark Francois, Vice Chamberlain of Her Majesty’s Household, Minister of the Privy Council.
Richard Close, Briggs Equipment’s CEO, explains: “Every year we support a charity and run a whole host of fundraising activity days throughout the year. On May 20 we hope to raise enough money so that we can get a good head-start on our goal for the year of funding the development of dogs being trained to transform the lives of disabled people.”
Other activities that will be held throughout the day will be a ‘mufti’ day for staff to wear anything orange, a Bring & Buy Sale and a Big Dog Quiz.
