BRIGGS EQUIPMENT HELPS MAINTAIN PREMIUM EFFICIENCY LEVELS FOR UK’S ONLY AUTOMATED CONTAINER PORT

June 25, 2010 - After having received unprecedented service for the past 18 years, London Thamesport has renewed its contract with Briggs Equipment by taking supply of five Konecranes empty container handlers. The new fleet will help maintain levels of efficiency that are amongst the highest in the industry and accommodate business growth.

The port needed a partner with a proactive and flexible approach to supplying and servicing trucks for the most demanding of operations. When the contract was put forth to tender, Briggs needed to up the ante not only by supplying the right equipment but also providing a first-rate service with unrivalled reliability and efficiency. During a rigorous tender process, Briggs listened carefully to the port’s operational needs and decided to join forces with Cooper Specialised Handling, the UK’s leading distributor of Konecranes lift trucks.

“The Konecranes machines use sophisticated technology and offer premium ergonomics to help increase operator engagement,” says Briggs’ national accounts manager, Chris Rodger. “This combined with our support and service has enabled the machines to achieve 95 per cent uptime.”

The machines are on a four year contract hire agreement and Briggs supplied two multi-skilled engineers permanently on site in addition to its force of 350 mobile field engineers.

“Our engineers are dedicated to the port’s operations,” continues Chris Rodger. “They are integrated within the workforce, almost as if they are London Thamesport employees. By having direct access to our engineers, the port’s managers receive real-time information and can therefore keep machine downtime to an absolute minimum.”

In total, London Thamesport’s container handling fleet encompasses six empty container handlers and three 45 tonne top-lift reach stacker, all serviced and maintained by Briggs. Each one of the port’s 50 drivers is multi-skilled to operate the mixed fleet and perform daily shift checks to help maximise productivity.
