October 30, 2009 - Cooper Specialised Handling, the UK’s sole national distributor of Konecranes lift trucks, has reached an agreement to represent Konecranes’ port equipment business throughout the UK and Ireland.
The agreement, which encompasses Konecranes extensive port cranes range, means that Cooper SH is able to offer a complete product portfolio for multimodal ports and terminal operators. Recognising the highly specialised requirements of this market, the company has reorganised its customer operations to include a dedicated port equipment division.
David Cooper, managing director of Cooper SH, commented, “The ports and terminals sector demands a specialist approach. Our new port equipment division offers the most complete range of port equipment available from a single source in the UK. The progression into cranes is a natural extension and affords us the opportunity to become a true consultative partner in all manner of container movement and storage.”
Cooper SH has long represented Konecranes rolling equipment range of heavy forklifts (formally SMV), container handlers and reachstackers. The new agreement sees Cooper SH’s range extended to include ship-to-shore cranes; rail mounted gantry cranes, rubber-tyred gantry cranes as well as Konecranes’ new range of straddle carriers.
Konecranes’ sales manager, port cranes Europe region, Thomas Gylling stated, “We are delighted to be extending our relationship with Cooper SH. This move reinforces Cooper SH’s position as the leading independent supplier of port equipment in the United Kingdom. Cooper’s performance within the lift trucks division of Konecranes was top level globally and this agreement highlights the strategic importance of the ports and terminals market for both parties.”
The move will see Cooper SH splitting its supply portfolio into two distinct categories – Industrial Equipment and Port Equipment – both offering specialised handling solutions to two specific business sectors each with their own special needs. The company also represents MAFI terminal and RoRo tractors as well as Baumann sideloaders in the UK.
