June 13, 2007 - Employees of Cannock-based Briggs Equipment have raised more than £6,000 for charity by creating and staging a one-off live music performance in the town. The Briggs band, Moomin’ and the Minkies, consisted of a line-up of six employees who came together to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and to entertain their colleagues.
Although the band members are keen amateur musicians, it took several weeks of rehearsals to perform the full two hour set, which included favourites from The Kinks, Van Morrison, The Zutons, Travis, The Beatles and James. The concert, which took place in Bar Sport on 7th June, was attended by over 200 employees from Briggs Equipment. Ticket sales were complimented on the night with a charity raffle and auction of an England football shirt, signed by Manchester United forward, Wayne Rooney. The company matched the money raised by its employees to see a final sum of £6,280 go to the lung cancer charity.
Peter Barlow, lead vocalist and strategic account manager at Briggs Equipment, said, “We have put a lot of hard work into making the evening a success and have been delighted by the support we have received from our colleagues at Briggs. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can feel that they have contributed to The Roy Castle Foundation’s vision to defeat lung cancer.”
