September 01, 2008 - Local business, Ossett Tyres, is expanding into new markets after investing £20,000 in a mobile tyre press. The Ossett based company, which has also taken on four new members of staff, is the first in the country to own a diesel powered mobile press and is now uniquely placed to offer an on-site service to its customers.
The tyre press, which is the first of its kind in having a diesel powered generator integral within the trailer unit, was supplied by BMH Industrial Tyres, the UK’s largest independent tyre service group. It has been designed specifically for the needs of Ossett Tyres’ customer, Ciba Speciality Chemicals.
“We needed a tyre service solution for the chemical and process industries where there is a risk of explosion,” says Stuart Clarke, Director of Ossett Tyres. “The new diesel powered unit eliminates this risk and can be used to provide a very fast and efficient on-site service.”
Ossett Tyres, which deals with the fitting, service and inspection of all types of tyre, has recently expanded into new premises. Investing in the new mobile tyre press has brought a raft of new custom to the family-owned business. “The new press means we can now offer our customers a specialised service, as a result we have been inundated with enquiries and our order book is pretty full,” adds Stuart Clarke, Director of Ossett Tyres.
A tyre press is used to press solid tyres on and off wheels, and when it comes to industrial vehicles, fitting the right type and size of tyre is critical. A survey conducted by Briggs Equipment, the company which owns BMH Industrial Tyres, found that 40% of tyres fitted by users are the wrong size and compound. Poorly fitted tyres can result in serious accidents and damage and even cause muscular-skeletal disorders in drivers, such as back pain. With the new press, Ossett Tyres can now correctly fit the right tyre on-site within minutes.
After a partnership of 22 years, Ossett Tyres can continue to continue a service based on expertise and solutions, in fitting and maintaining all types of tyres in plant and equipment across Yorkshire. It is estimated that 7,500 machines, around the Ossett and Wakefield area alone, will benefit from the new tyre press.
