April 30, 2008 - PalletFORCE, a major force in the palletised distribution sector in the UK, has invested nearly £300,000 in a fleet of gas fork lift trucks to achieve increased turnaround on pallet movements with reduced emissions and cost of fleet operation.
The company, which operates 45 Cat® lift trucks across two sites at Fradley Park in Lichfield, has worked with Briggs Equipment to install a fleet of new Caterpillar GP25N trucks complete with engine protection systems.
The greener trucks are equipped with the new industrial K series LPG engines and Class 1 catalytic converters. The sophisticated engine management system incorporates automatic idle control, speed controller and automatic air/fuel ratio control. This means that the trucks have high performance, low exhaust emissions and more efficient fuel consumption and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
As well as being virtually emission free and meeting the latest EU directive 97/68/EC, even when working indoors, these trucks reduce noise levels. Even at low speeds, the GP25N Cat lift trucks meet the requirements of the Noise at Work Act 2006.
PalletFORCE needed trucks that would work fast and agilely to keep up with its own high rate of operation. The trucks’ nimble fingertip controls, unrivalled stability, responsiveness and tight turning circle have won drivers’ loyalty.
“Many of our drivers simply won’t drive anything else,” comments Carl Worgan PalletFORCE Operations Director. “We run an extremely busy and streamlined operation which is expanding. Our drivers feel very safe in the Cat lift trucks, they have a low centre of gravity which makes them very stable and other safety features such as the poweRamic mast and seat switch come built-in. The trucks also achieve an optimum rate of hydraulic speed and travel speed, with increased fuel efficiency. Overall this means that our drivers can work fast and safe with great efficiency.”
In order to improve lifetime cost of ownership Briggs fitted the fleet with the Transmon tyre protector. By preventing forward and reverse selection whilst the truck is in motion or at high engine rpm, this system helps maintain traction, correct bad driving and reduce tyre and transmission wear.
“PalletFORCE has grown rapidly in the last 6 years, from 500 pallets per night to over 7,500” continues Worgan. “The combination of performance and reliability of Cat lift trucks coupled with Briggs’ on-site service provision means that these machines virtually never stop running. For this operation the LPG machines deliver the best in performance whilst complying with tight directives on noise and emissions.”
