April 14, 2011 - Martial arts enthusiasts behind a gruelling world record attempt are well on the way to raising thousands of pounds for a hospice that cares for children in Milton Keynes with life limiting conditions.
With around three weeks to go before he leads the longest continuous Brazilian Jiu-jitsu/ Mixed Martial Arts class, Ebe Ghansah says that 15 volunteers have so far agreed to join him in breaking the 30-hour record and they are looking to raise around £100 each.
A further 60 people are taking part in the record-breaking class and hopes they can raise yet more sponsorship for Keech Hospice.
“On top of this, more than £200 has been pledged online so we are well on the way to reaching our target of £5,000,” explained Ebe.
The fundraising also has the support of Bucks-Biz, the company behind the prestigious Interchange Business Centre in Newport Pagnell where Ebe’s martial arts studio,M1J14 Academy, is based and where the record attempt will take place on May 8 and 9.
The company is planning to open the business centre for a special family fun day on May 8 and is also providing marketing and administration support.
“We would still like more support and sponsorship from local businesses to help us raise money for a really worthy cause,” continued Ebe, a former British Olympic Team member.
“We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers to give up a few hours of their time to act as witnesses. This will help to ensure that we do not miss out on a place in the Guinness Book of Records.”
Laura Devine from Keech hospice, said: “We would like to thank Ebe and Bucks-Biz for their support so far, and hope that as many individuals and businesses get behind them as they prepare for this ambitious world record attempt.
“We rely heavily on such fundraising events so that we can continue to provide a valuable service to children and their families at the hospice and in the community.”
